Nana Patole’s ‘dog’ remark against BJP triggers controversy ahead of Maharashtra Polls

Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole recently made a controversial statement during an election rally in Akola, where he compared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a dog. Patole addressed the crowd, saying, “Will the OBC people of Akola vote for the BJP who are calling you dogs? It is time to make the BJP a dog now.” His comment has drawn attention as the state prepares for the upcoming assembly elections.

Patole criticized the BJP for allegedly disrespecting the OBC community and accused the party of breaking promises made to the people of Maharashtra. He urged the OBC voters not to support a party that he claimed has insulted them. He also stated, “The time has come to remove the BJP from Maharashtra. This party came to power with a bundle of lies, and now the time has come to show its place.” Patole further targeted former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of having an arrogant attitude.

In response, the BJP condemned Patole’s remarks. BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari reacted by stating that Patole’s comments showed frustration due to the Congress party’s expected defeat in the upcoming elections. Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya also criticized Patole, attributing the remarks to the MVA’s perceived struggles in the election campaign.

The controversy highlights the ongoing tension between the two major political alliances in Maharashtra. The MVA, which includes Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP, is seeking to regain power from the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, which includes the Shiv Sena faction led by Eknath Shinde and the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar. The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, with results set to be declared on November 23.

Earlier this month, another political remark stirred controversy when Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant referred to Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC as “imported maal.” Sawant later issued an apology after the remark was widely condemned. In addition to the personal attacks, BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari accused Congress of wanting to silence political opponents through legal measures if they come to power, referring to the “Emergency” mindset.
